Time Guide Title & Description
Fri 1st May - 11:00 AM Liza Dodds The Nonconformists of Abney Park Cemetery

Abney Park Cemetery, one of London’s "Magnificent Seven" burial grounds, is historically dedicated to Nonconformists, dissenters and those excluded from Church of England rites. As Europe's first non-denominational garden cemetery, it serves as the resting place for thousands of radicals, reformers and individuals who believed in being a good person. Many were Congregationalists, who believed that a congregation has the right to decide its forms of worship and confessional statements, choose its own officers and administer its own affairs without outside interference. Their ideas and actions reverberated over time and contributed to a particularly British concept of radicalism that led to the Trade Union movement and the modern Labour movement.
